We had a lovely Easter service. Although I’m very grateful to Delyth for sorting out Zoom,
and to all those who have helped and continue to help with our Zoom services, there is
something special about coming together under one roof (albeit masked and socially
distanced). Even if it wasn’t possible this year to end with our usual rousing rendition of
‘Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son’, I’m sure that next year the triumphant strains of
Handel’s great tune ‘Maccabaeus’ will echo through the building. Many thanks to Rosemary
and Lynette for ensuring that the church looked so beautiful – and to Glenda for the Easter
butterflies. Sadly, Kristie our curate was unable to be with us because of illness – we wish
her a speedy recovery, and keep her in our prayers.
I’ve always felt that the days after Easter have a dreamlike quality that is reflected in the
Gospel accounts. It is as though the disciples thought that the news about Jesus’
resurrection was too good to be true – and then were totally stunned (and overcome with
joy and thankfulness) to discover that it really was true. It’s a state of mind often described
by those who are released from captivity. As one translation of the Psalms puts it ‘When
Israel came out of Egypt…we were like those who dream’. Emerging from lockdown and
taking our first steps towards a more normal life may have the same effect for many people.
Anyone wishing to contribute their ministry share/church contributions by bank standing
order is asked to contact our Treasurer, Mr Nigel Roberts, for details. We are looking for a
new church hall cleaner. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please could you
get in touch with Lynette or Rosemary for information on what is involved. Our Pre-vestry
meeting (the equivalent of the old Easter Vestry) will be held on Zoom on 22 April at 7pm.
The LMA Easter Vestry will be held on Zoom at 7pm on 27 April (those intending to attend
should e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org by 7pm on 20 April).
There is still a plate at the back of the church to receive contributions for our Christmas/Lent
Appeal for the Salvation Army and Armenian refugees.
