CANON PATRICK’S 112th LETTER

Dear friends,
On Friday I attended a wonderful open-air assembly at the Model Church in Wales School to
mark my retirement. The children were in their socially distanced bubbles, and each year
group made its own special contribution. These ranged from the tiniest children of all
singing ‘Twinkle, twinkle little star’ enthusiastically, to a cheerful dramatic presentation of
the parable of the lost sheep and some delightful songs and imaginative poems and prayers.
The celebration cake featured Cosmo and Colin, the Christ Church animals (there was also
another lovely sponge cake made by one of the children), and I came away with a large box
full of gifts and memories, and two balloons. It was quite overwhelming, and I am extremely
grateful to all those responsible, and especially to Mrs Debi Deacon and Mrs Jo Davies.
It has been a huge privilege to be involved with the Model School over the past two
decades. The school’s unique quality has been enhanced in recent years by an outstanding
head-teacher, Mrs Amanda Bowen-Price. Under her leadership, combining quiet firmness
and kindliness, the school has become a very real model for all church schools. During my
time as chair of governors it has been a great joy to work alongside Amanda and Mr Nigel
Roberts, a superb vice-chair. One of my first tasks as a governor twenty years ago was to
write the school prayer: ‘Jesus our Model helps us to share learning and kindness, friendship
and care. Dysg, caredigrwydd a ffrindiau cytûn ac Iesu’r Model sy’n helpu pob un’.
VOLUNTEER NEEDED Because of family commitments Mrs Lynette Edwards is giving up as
Hall Secretary. We are truly thankful for the dedicated and efficient way in which she has
looked after the Church Hall in recent years. If anyone would be interested in taking over as
the new Hall Secretary, please could you contact Mrs Rosemary Bowen as soon as possible.
Lynette will be happy to let anyone know what is involved.
There is still some Holy Bric-a-brac/Trugareddau on a table in the vestry on the way out.
Please help yourself to any items that take your fancy. If you feel like making a small
donation to Christ Church, a plate is provided.
My last Welsh service in Christ Church will be on Sunday 8 August at 11am and my last
English service in Christ Church will be on Sunday 15 August at 9.15am.
